GARRICK TAYLOR BYRNE
GATHERING DATA IN THE FIELD
interactive map in QGIS
My preferred GIS platform in QGIS. Perhaps my favorite feature of QGIS is that it can be installed on multiple computers without additional licensing costs.

QGIS is a fine application for creating and updating shapefiles and making maps. In addition to its place in the office or lab, it works well as a tool for reference and data collection in the field.

This map setup was intended to be used in the field on a tablet PC. Its purpose is to aid geologists in identifying the age, composition, and location of rock formations.

Users can use the Identify Features tool to view more detailed information about the formation. On the left side, users can toggle layers on and off as desired.
